A Life That Matters

A Minister's Message from Rev. Dr. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister cshorow@fccedmond.org | 405.341.3544

There’s a difference between existing and living. Existing is about survival—getting through the week, checking the boxes, keeping up with the noise and the pace. Living is something deeper. It is noticing the beauty of our world, cherishing the people around us, and finding purpose in the life God has given us.

When God created human beings, God looked at all that had been made and said, “It is good.” That is the truest thing about us. We are created in God’s image, and life itself is meant to be good. Yet we often lose sight of that goodness when we get caught up in what Parker Palmer calls the “Important Matters,” all the small distractions that pull us away from what really matters.

This fall at First Christian Church Edmond, we are beginning a new worship series called A Life That Matters. It invites us to pause and remember that abundant life is not something to chase, but something already within our reach. We’ll explore what it means to choose purpose over performance, relationships over recognition, and faith over fear.

Through the stories of those who came before us, we’ll see that a meaningful life is rarely loud or glamorous. It grows quietly, through love that endures, faith that guides, and community that sustains us across generations.

If your days have started to feel hurried, routine, or hollow, this series is an invitation to begin again. An invitation to open your eyes to beauty, to live with gratitude, and to remember that you were made for more than getting by. You were made for life in all its fullness.

From shared joys and collective struggles to mentoring across generations, we find that meaning is something we make together. So join us for A Life That Matters, a journey toward living fully, loving deeply, and seeing the goodness of God in every moment.
