Wednesday Evenings at First Christian

UNITE: A Midweek Time to Get Curious & Find Community

CONTACT: Rev. Mark Taylor, Minister of Faith Development 405.341.3544
Our calendars fill quickly. Work, school, activities, and obligations compete for our time and attention. UNITE is a weekly invitation to be intentional with how we spend a Wednesday evening. It is a chance to step out of the rush and into a rhythm shaped by community, faith, and shared life. Each Wednesday at 6:00 PM, we gather around open tables for dinner. From there, children and youth connect in small groups where they are known and supported, while adults choose from conversations and studies that encourage curiosity and deepen faith. Nursery care and choir rehearsal are also part of the evening.

UNITE is more than a weekly program. It is the heart of our community life. This is where relationships are formed and faith is shaped through honest conversation. So choose a midweek rhythm rooted in open tables, meaningful relationships, and a spacious faith.

The Core Teachings of Jesus
Taught by Rev. Dr. Chris Shorow - 6:30 to 7:30PM, Fellowship Hall/North

Jesus’ teachings come to us in many forms throughout Scripture, from the Sermon on the Mount and parables to conversations with disciples, challenges to religious authorities, and the writings of Paul and the early church. This class explores the core teachings of Jesus and why they still matter in our world today. Together, we will reflect on questions such as our responsibility to others, our relationship to society, and how to live faithfully within a culture that encourages constant striving for more. Each week will also include exploration of everyday life in biblical times, using images, stories, and shared experiences like food to better understand the world of Jesus, Paul, and the early Christian communities.

Pastors’ Class for Everyone
Taught by Rev. Dr. John Regan
Meets March 25–April 29, 6:30–7:30 PM, classroom 116.

Curious about the basics of the Christian faith or the traditions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)? The Pastors’ Class for Everyone offers a thoughtful introduction to worship, communion, and baptism, with plenty of room for questions about theology, tradition, and Scripture. The class is open to adults of all ages wanting a deeper understanding. It also aligns with our spring Pastors’ Class for 5th graders, offering a Wednesday evening make-up option if a Sunday session is missed or giving parents of those students a time to gain a deeper understanding of what their child is exploring.
