Summer Sunday Morning Book Club

We love a good book! This year we’ve chosen three great books to shape our summer worship series. We thought you might like a chance to dig a little deeper, reflect together, and share insights with each other. If your group is taking a break over the summer, or if you aren’t part of a group and want to join good conversation, come any or all of the Sundays. You can read the books or not - it’s up to you. We promise you’ll still enjoy the conversation even if you don’t read these interesting books.

Book One: Practice the Pause: Jesus' Contemplative Practice, New Brain Science, and What It Means to Be Fully Human By Caroline Oakes

Ancient insight woven together with modern neuroscience gives a complete picture of who and what we can all become by embodying the active, contemplative way of Jesus.

Book Two: How Not To Be Afraid: Seven Ways to Live When Everything Seems Terrifying By Gareth Higgins

Fear and anxiety are consuming us, especially our kids. Whether your fear is about violence, shame, illness, money, meaning, or the collapse of certainty, you are not alone. Higgins explores seven common fears, and shows how we can replace our narratives of fear and cynicism with better stories.

Book Three: Jesus Is the Question: The 307 Questions Jesus Asked and the 3 He Answered By Martin B. Copenhaver

Contrary to some beliefs, Jesus is not the ultimate Answer Man, but more like the Great Questioner. He asked many more questions than he answered. Through questions, he modeled the struggle, the wondering, the thinking that helps us draw closer to God and better understand, not just the answer, but ourselves, and ultimately why questions are among Jesus’ most profound gifts for a life of faith.
