Feeding Hungry Students
Ida Freeman Elementary Weekend Food Program

Food is the most essential school supply. Without it, children cannot learn. Going without food, even briefly, can cause long-term effects like depression, anxiety, poor social skills, and difficulty in school. Sadly, Oklahoma consistently ranks among the highest states for child food insecurity, and it’s happening right here in Edmond.
That’s why we partner with Ida Freeman Elementary to ensure chronically hungry students have what they need to thrive.
Here’s how the program works:
Students Are Identified: School staff notice students in need. Then with parent/guardian permission we deliver food right to their front porch.
Shopping & Packing: Volunteers shop for fresh fruit and assemble meal kits to help sustain children and families over the weekend.
Picking Up Snack Boxes: Volunteers pick up boxes filled with pre-packed snack bags from Ida Freeman Elementary. These bags are provided by the Regional Food Bank through its backpack program. The pick-up crew places the snack bags in opaque bags, and leave them to be delivered with the meal kits we create.
Delivery: Volunteers deliver the snack bags and meal kit bags to students’ homes before the weekend, providing nourishment when school meals aren’t available.
There are multiple ways to volunteer, whether as an individual, a couple, or a family. You can sign up to shop, pack, pick up snack boxes, or deliver—and you can choose a single week or several during the semester. Every helping hand makes a difference!
Be part of love in action for Edmond’s kids.
