“Be still, and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
Early Sunday morning, the high school students from First Christian Church left for Encounter 2016, their summer mission trip to Estes Park, Colorado. I attended this mission trip twice as a member of the youth at First Christian, once in middle school and once in high school. My Encounter experiences had a true impact on my life and are ones I will never forget. It is a week filled with spending time with your First Christian family while also encountering God’s presence and his great love.
If you have ever been to Estes Park, Colorado, you know it is a wonderful place to encounter God and his creations. The scripture for the week of Encounter comes from Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.” During Encounter, the students have many opportunities to sit in God’s wonderful creation and listen to his still voice. It is easy to see God on the mountaintops, while hiking up a beautiful trail or singing your favorite worship songs with your best friends. But I learned on my last Encounter trip that God is just as present in Edmond, Oklahoma, and everywhere else, as he is on top of the mountains. Sometimes we just have to look for him a little harder.
God tells us if we seek him we will find him -“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart,” Jeremiah 29:13. When we center God in our lives and seek him diligently everyday, he reveals himself in ways we could never imagine. God is always with us even on our most boring or busy days. When we seek him, we might just find the most extraordinary things in the most ordinary days. It is easy to get wrapped up in our busy lives; but it is important to find time to “be still” and be in God’s presence!
I challenge you this week to try to find time everyday to be still in God’s presence and encounter God’s goodness at home or wherever you are!
