“Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.  Open the eyes of my heart.  I want to see you.”

“Where did you see God today?” This is a simple question. This is also a question we often ask the students of First Christian Church of Edmond on summer mission trips. The students get in the routine of being on the “lookout” for their God sightings of the day on these trips. Their eyes, ears and hearts are open to everything that the Lord has to offer them. I have been that student on many of those trips. I have gotten in the routine during those weeks with my “God sighting goggles” in full force. Students come back from their mountain top experiences and may continue this routine for a while, but what happens when we come back into the valley? What happens when we get busy? What happens when we get distracted? What happens on the days when it’s hard just to see the good?

The answer? God is still there. He is there when we struggle and when we succeed. He is there when we are near and when we are far. Even when we can’t see Him or feel Him, He is there.

So, where did I see God? I saw God in our students who just came back from an incredible mission trip to Estes Park, Colorado. I saw God in their stories, in their friendships and in their conversations about their own personal God sightings.

This week, I challenge you to open your eyes, ears and heart to all God has in store. Put on your God sighting goggles, and ask yourself, “Where did I see God today?”

I invite you to use the lyrics to the song “Open the Eyes of My Heart” as your daily prayer for this week:

“Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.  Open the eyes of my heart.  I want to see you.”
