This is the Time - Karla Rowley
This is the time of reflection on Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection as we prepare for Easter through lent. Many, many years ago I received a wonderful poem. This is only a small section—but I thought I could share a portion as I reflect on what this season means to me.
‘FASTING AND FEASTING (GIVING UP AND TAKING ON)
Fast from judging others; Feast on the Christ indwelling them.
Fast from emphasis on differences; Feast on the unity of all life.
Fast from apparent darkness; Feast on the reality of light.
Fast from thoughts of illness; Feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from words that pollute; Feast on phrases that purify.
Fast from discontent; Feast on gratitude.’
It is my personal belief that everyone I meet or hear about on the news has Christ within them. In some cases He is still wooing them to Himself, and they may not yet be aware of His presence. I love the contrasts of this poem. Fasting from the negative and feasting on things that are positive. I don’t always remember to do that in my daily life—but it is a goal of mine to be intentional (especially at this time of year) about being a person who looks for the positive.
