July 21 - Herb Magley

More than 64,000 Oklahomans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and over 223,000 family and friends are providing care. Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause changes in memory, thinking and behavior that interfere with daily life.

Join us for an enlightening session to learn about 10 common warning signs of Alzheimer’s and what to watch for in yourself and others. This session will be presented by Herb Magley, Board Member of the Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma Chapter. In addition, he leads several local support groups, is an advocate to state and federal legislators, and speaks throughout the country on various Alzheimer’s topics. He was the caregiver for his wife and best friend, Gail for 11 years after she was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimer’s Disease in 2005 at the age of 54.

Alzheimer’s is one of the most demanding and stressful diseases for caregivers. First Christian Church was recently approached by the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma to help start a new support group for Alzheimer’s caregivers. The group meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month.
