Healing by an FCC Elder (Anonymous)

In 1973 I was looking forward to summer as it would be the first one in 3 years that we were not moving.  We had 4 children and I was planning to have a fun and relaxing summer with them.  In retrospect it turned out to be one of the most difficult summers that I had ever experienced.

Our next to the oldest daughter who was 9 developed pneumonia and when she finished the medication to treat it we went back to the pediatrician for a repeat chest X-ray to be sure that her lung was clear.  That evening the pediatrician came to our house to inform us that the X-ray showed what appeared to be a lymphoma and that he had already scheduled her to be admitted to the hospital the next day for more tests & to determine the treatment.

With no family here to help with the other 3 children ages 3 to 11 and our 9 year old having to be admitted to the hospital due to a possible life threatening illness I felt that God had deserted me but I was begging him to please save our little girl.  Two days later we were informed by the physicians that a procedure that had been done came back with the results that the tumor was so far along that they didn't think she would live until Christmas.

Again I was devastated and begging God to help.  At this point they felt that it was necessary to open her chest and try to remove the tumor.  They could not do this for another week because the surgeon who was needed was out of town and would not be back for a week.  Again I prayed for God to please provide a miracle and he did.

When they performed the surgery they discovered that she had an extra lobe on that lung which did not receive oxygen so it had rotted and appeared to be a tumor on the X-ray.  They removed it and she was cured.  To me this was a healing that God provided as an answer to our prayers.

But you—you serve your God and he’ll bless your food and your water. I’ll get rid of the sickness among you; there won’t be any miscarriages nor barren women in your land. I’ll make sure you live full and complete lives.” (Exodus 23:25-26 The Message)

Reflection Question:

Do you believe that God can bring forth physical healing?

Giver of Life,
Where my understanding is limited, bring peace and trust. We thank you for our health and healing.
In Your Holy Name, Amen
